MCP: connect your own AI to your company data
MCP is like a USB port for AI: plug Claude or another assistant into your accounting data in FreeMe and ask in plain language. Read-only.
- Read-only
- Revoke any time
- Works with Claude, Cursor…
Short demo: your AI assistant connects to FreeMe over MCP. You generate a key on the AI Assistant screen, paste it into Claude's settings, and then ask, for example, which invoices are unpaid for over 30 days or to compare revenue by month. The demo figures are sample data and access is read-only.
One standard
MCP is a common socket for AI. Plug in once, and it works with different assistants.
Read-only
Your AI can look at the numbers but cannot change, create or delete anything.
Ask like a human
No reports or filters: ask in plain language and get an answer with figures.
You hold the key
A personal key you can limit to selected companies and revoke instantly.
What you can ask your AI about your accounting data
Your assistant gets read tools for documents, payments, partners, VAT and more. Here is what you can ask.
Answers are only as good as the data in FreeMe: if documents are not uploaded and booked, there is nothing to count.
How to connect Claude or another AI assistant to FreeMe
Four steps, about ten minutes. Best suited to someone comfortable editing a config file.
Open the screen
In FreeMe, in the company sidebar, choose AI Assistant.
Generate a key
Click Generate key. It is shown only once, so copy it right away and store it like a password.
Pick companies
Optionally, under Restrict to companies, keep only the companies your assistant should see.
Copy the configuration
Pick your client and copy the ready-made setup. The screen fills in your new key for you.
- Claude Desktop needs Node.js
- Claude Code
- Cursor
- ChatGPT via the OpenAI API only
- Any client with MCP over HTTP
If that is not you, hand the screen to whoever looks after your computer or to a technical contractor. Afterwards the same screen shows when the key was last used.
Security: you decide what your AI assistant can see
It is fair to ask whether to let an AI near your books. Here is what is true about this connection.
Read-only
Nothing is changed, created or deleted through the key. The assistant cannot issue an invoice, make a payment or file a return.
Never wider than your access
The key sees only the companies and areas you have permission for. If your access is limited, so is your assistant.
A personal key, optionally per company
One key for your account. If you do not want it to cover all your companies, restrict it to selected ones.
Revoke whenever you like
Revoke cuts access immediately. Regenerate issues a new key and the old one stops. If your account is disabled, the key stops too.
What is not exposed
Personal ID numbers, employee records, the team chat and the contents of uploaded files are deliberately left out of the connection.
Your AI provider's terms
We do not use your data for training. But the answer your assistant receives goes to its own provider, and their terms apply. Check its privacy settings.
Your own AI over MCP or the built-in FreeMe AI
It is not either/or. Many owners use both.
Your AI over MCP
- For people who already work in Claude or another assistant
- Figures sit next to the rest of your work: spreadsheets, emails, reports
- Needs a little setup
The built-in FreeMe AI
- Works right inside the app
- Nothing to install, the fastest route to an answer
- In the same chat as our accountants
For most people the built-in assistant is enough. MCP is for you if you want the freedom to use your own AI.
